THE MIDLAND & SOUTH-WESTERN COUNTIES CONVENTION

In the spring of 1920, the Secretary of Gloucestershire BKA suggested to the County Bee Instructor, that an inter-counties beekeepers convention might be organised.

They therefore wrote to the county secretaries of Worcestershire, Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire and the first convention was held in Gloucester in the autumn of 1920 with the Mayor of Gloucester at the opening ceremony. It was decided to create a permanent organisation, the Midland & South Western Counties Convention of Beekeepers (MSWCC), funded by the member counties, and that each county should take its turn to host the convention. Apart from the war years a convention has been held each year on a rotational basis.

The number of participating counties has grown over the years and currently includes Gwent, Northamptonshire, South Staffordshire & District, Swansea & District, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Worcestershire.

The 2008 conference is being hosted by Gwent, on 5-7 September at Abergavenny (Details Available Here), and the following year the conference will be hosted by Northamptonshire, on 4-6 September 2009, at Hothorpe Hall.
